Techstars Boston recently named its newest selection of startup companies for its business accelerator program and included among the twelve finalists is Hot.es, the last minute hotel reservation app that is the brainchild of Les Roches Marbella alumnus, Adelaida Muriel.
Hot.es is the only company in Spain to be selected in 2015 and joins a select list of companies who specialize in everything from travel, mobile, education technology and enterprise software to retail, 3-D printing, and food distribution tech. The Malaga based company is the go-to mobile app for global last minute hotel bookings and has been growing in popularity around the world since its inception in 2012. Adelaida Muriel has big plans for the company and her proven success so far has drawn the attention of Techstars amidst a flood of proposals from innovative business startups around the world.
During quarterly sessions held each year, Techstars chooses a dozen startup companies from diverse industries to assist them in financing and mentoring. The participating startups get an initial $118,000 in funding, mentorship by business and tech experts, and office space to launch or advance their companies. In exchange for the acceleration assistance, Techstars acquire a small equity stake in each of the selected firms.
The twelve companies selected this year are:
AdmitHub – optimized admissions processes for students, counselors and colleges.
doDOC – automated regulatory documentation for the enterprise.
GVMachines – white-label grocery delivery service.
SmackHigh – a place for teens to express themselves and be heard.
Hot – last minute hotel bookings for global markets.
Cuseum – museum engagement platform.
LovePop – creates intricate paper art that pops.
Netra – makes machine vision and deep learning for multi-camera video intelligence.
Provender – a marketplace for growers and buyers of fresh food. @provender
Shearwater – a platform for keeping international students enrolled and engaged.
ThriveHive – guided marketing for small businesses.
Kwambio – a platform for creating unique, personalized products on 3D printers.
This year’s Techstars Boston gathering is riding the momentum created by 2013 finalist, Pillpack, who recently raised $50 million for its high-tech pharmacy concept. The international exposure to be gained by Hot.es puts the company into position to become a global leader in hotel bookings by providing real-time last minute availability for travelers. The app offers users the opportunity to save big and give lets hotels fill rooms and increase their RevPar.
