Sustainability Driven Academics

Sustainability, corporate responsibility and ethics are cornerstones of our academic curricula at both undergraduate and graduate degree level.
We offer a Bachelor’s degree specialization in Sustainable Developments and Practices, as well as Master’s and MBA courses dedicated to responsible hospitality.

In addition, sustainability is one of the four core pillars of our Strategy for Research & Innovation. Our faculty members teach and conduct research on topics such as ethics and CSR, sustainability and innovation, sustainable luxury, and sustainable business strategies.

Our students also explore different aspects of sustainability through applied research projects developed under faculty supervision.
Each project helps us foster close collaboration and the exchange of knowledge within and beyond the hospitality industry.

Forums Dedicated to Sustainable Development

ShiftIn’ – where innovation meets sustainability

The annual ShiftIn’ event at Les Roches Crans-Montana brings different generations together to engage in collective, critical and informative dialogues, aimed at creating a more sustainable future for the hospitality industry.

ShiftIn’ attracts high-profile speakers from industry and academia, resulting in stimulating discussions of sustainability trends and proposals for new solutions.

The Spark Innovation Sphere Summit

Hosted by Crans-Montana campus, the Spark Summit brings together expertise and innovative thinking from both our Swiss and Spanish campuses.

Like previous summits, the third edition of the event, held in November 2022, had a specific focus on sustainability.

Nurturing Change Maker Talent

UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)

Taking Responsible
Action Today

Our journey to becoming a fully sustainable institution begins with the steps we take today.

Reducing our environmental impact from sustainable transportation to fighting food waste, we have launched a number of initiatives to reduce our impact on the environment. These initiatives are backed up by impact studies and data analytics, so that we can reliably measure our progress.

Electric car fleets

Providing electric car fleets for student/staff use, making Les Roches the first school in Europe (and possibly in the world) to offer a sustainable, 100% electric mobility service. Powered by our mobility partner Activacar.

Tackling food waste

Tackling food waste by partnering with KITRO, a Swiss-based imaging AI solution that measures and monitors food waste to identify solutions.

Solar panels initiative

Installing of solar panels on campus, first in Marbella, with Crans- Montana to follow.

Les Roches Green Club

Les Roches Green Clubs bring together students and staff in a collective mission to reduce our environmental impact and reach out to local communities.

Over the past decade, the Green Clubs have spearheaded a number of projects, while also raising awareness of sustainability issues.

Oceanic Global

Les Roches Crans-Montana is the first Swiss institution to adopt the Blue Standard, which empowers businesses to create balance with the natural world and establishes universal accountability and cohesive benchmarks for sustainable business leadership.

SUNx Malta

We are signatories to the Climate Friendly Travel Register, becoming accredited to reach the 2030 agenda of reducing our CO2 emissions by 55%.

SWO (Stiftung Wirtschaft und Ökologie)

To increase biodiversity, we have partnered with SWO and invited staff and their children to plant an Orchard Garden at Crans-Montana campus.

The first phase included the planting of local fruit trees and bushes, while the next phase will include the implementation of an insect hotel designed by the Green Club.

Committing to Global Standards

We are committed to supporting the achievement of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This influences our approach to daily campus operation, our students and our wider community. We undertake ongoing monitoring to measure our CSR performance through a detailed annual ESG reporting.

In addition to that, we launched our first Carbon Footprint assessment in 2021, measuring our direct and indirect greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions using European and global standards such as ADEME.

More recently, we participated in the EU Taxonomy assessment for sustainable activities which is a classification system established to clarify which investments are environmentally sustainable.

Marbella campus follows SGE21 – the first European standard that allows the implementation, auditing and certification of an ethical and socially responsible management system.

SGE21 covers areas such as organization governance, people, customers, investors and supply chain.

The campus is also committed to following the standards set by ISO 14001, which is a global and sector-independent standard for the introduction and continual improvement of Environmental Management Systems in companies around the world.

Serving as a responsible community partner

Both our campuses are responsible and proactive members of their local communities. Here are just a few examples of our local outreach

Crans-Montana

  • Partnering with Plastic Free Campus on numerous initiatives including workshops for school children at our ShiftIn’ environmental festival
  • Multiple projects, including bush planting and the planting of an orchard garden on campus to increase biodiversity, in association with FDDM.
Marbella
  • Three sessions of local beach cleaning each semester, in partnership with Produnas
  • Annual cooking class for children as a fundraising activity for DEBRA (Butterfly Skin charity association).
  • Weekly food donations to the Red Cross for distribution to local homeless community
