Les Roches Marbella lecturer, Mr. Moeed Shah, launched the LRM Cocktail Club for students on Friday, September 13th. Taking place weekly in the recently renovated campus demo bar, students are invited to join and learn the art of cocktail preparations, the history and popular culture of cocktails, and a working knowledge of the importance of Food & Beverage revenues in a hospitality business.
In February 2013, Mr. Shah began with a series of video blog posts titled “LRM Cocktail Corner” (see links to his previous posts below). These demonstrated how to make a selection of well-known cocktails from around the world. The reception of his blog articles was such a success that he has decided to take his expertise in the world of spirits one step further. By forming a weekly club gathering for students on campus, he now offers them a unique opportunity to enhance their knowledge and experience in this vital component of F&B departments through workshops and demonstrations in internationally renowned cocktail variations.
The club’s first gathering included 23 undergraduate and postgraduate students who, under the instruction of Mr. Shah, mixed an exotic selection of cocktails. Ever heard of an Easy Tiger, a Mango #5 or a Blackberry Collins? How about a Two Inches of Cucumber or a Don Corleone? The names alone are enough to wow the guests of any hotel bar operation!
To provide club members with useful F&B knowledge that will benefit their careers in Hospitality Management, each week Mr. Shah will seek out creative cocktail combinations, demonstrate variations in bartending techniques, discuss the history and theory of each, and provide insights to the economic impact each cocktail poses on a hotel’s F&B operation.
Following the LRM Cocktail Club get-togethers, Mr. Shah will continue to publish his LRM Cocktail Corner video blog featuring popular cocktails around the world. We invite you to follow the LRM Cocktail Club and LRM Cocktail Corner, right here in the Les Roches Marbella Blog. And remember; it’s shaken, not stirred!
