On Wednesday the 25th of September, students of the Postgraduate in Hospitality Management program hosted Sports Day on campus. The event, which takes place twice yearly, forms an integral part of the training carried out in the intensive postgraduate studies at Les Roches Marbella.
Event Management skills are important assets for hospitality professionals and this real-world exercise is the perfect opportunity for postgraduate students to put what they have learned in the classroom, into practice. Like planning for events in conference centers, hotels and other venues, the students must develop a concept, organize activities, create a schedule, develop menus, coordinate logistics and services, and work within an established budget. In addition to the management roles, other groups are responsible for preparing breakfast, lunch, and dinner for the entire student body.
Beginning in August, postgraduate students start by forming teams and set out to plan an entire day of sports events for the student body in and around Marbella. The day includes activities for some 500 students that range from football and volleyball to Zamba dancing and the Dangling Donut game. It all culminates with a BBQ in the campus garden which is prepared and served by the postgraduate teams as well.
The end result of their hard work and long hours is a fun-packed day for everyone. To see for yourself, take a minute to watch the video below!
