In these times of change and uncertainty it is increasingly important to give focus to people and their development. Discovering our true talent, unleashing our potential, recognizing our strengths and weaknesses, our passion and our values; these are essential principles that enable us to choose the best path among several options.
Today more than ever, we have to set a clear direction and strive head-on towards our goals in order to achieve them. We have to develop values between us that will undoubtedly prove useful throughout our personal and professional lives; values such as rigor, excellence, richness and authenticity that emanate from within us. The competition is more often with our own selves and not with others so it is always important to be positive, optimistic, cosmopolitan, passionate, loyal and efficient.
To increase our efficiency as stated by Steve Covey in his bestseller “7 Habits for highly effective people”, we must develop habits that will become, once internalized, powerful lessons in personal change. These habits are:
Habit 1 – Be Proactive
Habit 2 – Begin with the end in mind
Habit 3 – Put first things first
Habit 4 – Think Win / Win
Habit 5 – Seek first to understand, then to be understood
Habit 6 – Synergize
Habit 7 – Sharpen the Saw
The Les Roches Marbella Students Professional Development Staff have been working on these habits and have made some videos on how these can be applied to their daily lives.
In the video scenario presented below, a group of students that have been working on Habit #4 oultine how these skills can be put into action by thinking “Win-Win”. This video makes reference to what often occurs during the negotiation process, where we must always seek an agreement that is beneficial to both parties while defending our personal interests as well as those on the opposite side of the bargaining table. In short, a win-win solution comes from viewing the other side as a partner in the search for creative opportunities and not as an opponent. This habit allows closer personal ties and prepares a clear path for future collaboration.
