Les Roches Marbella was honored on Friday, February 20, 2015 to introduce the new illustrated version of the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Starting in February 2015, the pocket-sized booklet will be placed in all rooms of the campus residence and be available to students throughout the school in an effort to promote the importance of supporting human rights around the world.
As part of the ceremony held in the campus auditorium, Mr. Carlos Jimenez Renjifo, United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe gave an inspiring speech about the importance of upholding human rights for students who will soon be working around the world in the international hospitality & tourism industry. Following the presentation of the human rights declaration, Mr. Jimenez together with Ms. Ms. Katrine Laguna, General Manager of Room Mate Hotels Malaga, and Les Roches Marbella Lecturer, Ms. Ainhoa Otomendi offered a lively roundtable Q&A session with BBA 6 and BBA 7 students.
During the presentation, Mr. Jimenez Renjifo spoke at length about how our students are in the perfect position as hospitality and tourism professionals in one of the world’s most international industries to make a positive impact on the dissemination of human rights. The even was followed by an insightful Q&A where students did not hesitate to ask the panel pressing questions about the future of human rights.
The intent of Les Roches Marbella as an international educational institution is to promote, support and encourage those socio-cultural activities that are in line with the values that we transmit to our students. The launch of this new illustrated version of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights meets these important solidarity and humanitarian connotations.
Les Roches Marbella has been collaborating and strengthening ties with the United Nations in terms of our multicultural ties and by sharing the same values we instill in our students to train the best people for the current global hospitality & tourism industry. In 2014, we started to strengthen our relationship and have had the great opportunity to have presentations by D. Carlos Vogeler, Director – Executive Secretary for Relations with the members of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and D. Carlos Jiménez Renjifo, responsible for Spain Regional Research Center of the United Nations for Western Europe (UNRIC) in our closing ceremonies in June and December.
Les Roches Marbella has sponsered the publication of this new human rights booklet and this collaboration makes us the first educational institution in Spain to launch the new illustrated edition of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In the lead up the event, Les Roches Marbella students participated in the production of an original video that features them reciting each of the 30 articles of human rights in 30 different languages. The video and the printed Declaration were presented during the event’s morning press conference attended by regional journalists, Mr. Carlos Díez de la Lastra, Director of Les Roches Marbella, Ms. Carmen Díaz, Marbella City Counselor of Education and Culture, and Mr. Carlos Jiminez of the United Nations Regional Information Centre (UNRIC) for Western Europe.
