Hello everyone! My name is Margherita Tiso and I am a Les Roches Marbella Student Ambassador from Italy. I have just returned to campus this semester from my first internship in Brussels’ Renaissance Hotel. Now I am a proud second year student in Les Roches Marbella and I’m extremely excited to begin applying the skills I have acquired during my internship.
Before beginning my studies at LRM last year I wasn’t too sure what I wanted to do with my future. In high school I studied psychology and sociology since I always enjoyed understanding and helping people. However, I also dreamt of studying in a university with an international appeal, where I could learn to provide people with an unforgettable experience and meaningful service. This interest led me to research schools who could offer me such a career and after attending the open days at several schools, I found Les Roches Marbella. From my first introduction to LRM, I was attracted by the energy that runs through the school. The teachers were especially kind and attentive; they even call you by name which says a lot when compared to Europe’s larger universities. But it was more than that; the school has an air that felt personal from the outset – like being part of a large family.
After my first visit I began collecting more information about Les Roches’ craft-based learning philosophy. The more I learned, the more fascinated I became with studying a career in hospitality management. Finally, the possibility to combine on-campus studies with real world internships right from the beginning led me to ultimately choose Les Roches Marbella as the ideal school for my career development. So far my experience has been great.
Adjusting to a new school, a new language, and a new country presented some difficulties from time to time, but in those moments I was lucky to receive valuable help and advice from my professors. They are always there to listen and they understand what we go through as new students so those difficulties were, in retrospect, few and far between. In fact, there isn’t a day that goes by where you don’t learn something new and interesting. From the professors to my colleagues, each of us learn from one another and share our experiences in a positive atmosphere of professionalism.
Upon returning to campus recently, my appreciation of my career choice has grown a great deal. I now have some verifiable real-world experience, I’m no longer a “freshman”, and my future path is much clearer than when I arrived. Today, I see exactly how I can build on my university skills and professional experience. I also have the confidence going forward to take on a stimulating and challenging position in a hotel. Furthermore, I feel ambitious and I am more ready than ever to learn and develop thanks to the guidance I receive from those who are at the top of their field. Today, I intend to use what I have learned to become an expert and leader myself.
