Registration is now open for the 2014 Les Roches Marbella Andalusian Gastronomy Summer Program, being held on campus from July 20th to August 3rd. We are excited to announce that this year we will offer the program in two separate groups – one in Spanish and another in English. The deadline for all registration applications to be submitted is May 31st for both programs.
The Andalusian Gastronomy Program is designed to offer participants a true Andalusian culinary experience at our campus in Marbella, Spain, one of Europe’s most popular Mediterranean beach resorts. Acclaimed for its high concentration of four and five star hotels, beautiful weather and luxury amenities, Marbella is the perfect destination to learn about Andalusian gastronomy.
During the two weeks that students reside on campus, they will experience many facets of this privileged setting in the heart of the Costa del Sol. In Marbella you will discover all imaginable possibilities for outdoor and water sports as well as experience a rich multicultural community and enjoy leisure activities that include everything from sunbathing and shopping to theaters, concerts, museums and art exhibitions. Not to mention, you will be living on an international university campus that is home to students from over 60 countries.
The program is divided into several different segments. There are five days of learning Andalusian culinary techniques hands-on with our highly skilled chefs in the fully-equipped kitchens of Les Roches Marbella and two days of lectures from regional experts that include numerous food tastings of local products. These activities are followed by a series of day trips that include : visiting the village of Ronda where participants will tour a local bodega, a trip to the renowned beer brewery of San Miguel in Malaga, a cultural visit to the city of Granada that includes a tour of the Alhambra Palace, and a day of regional cuisine appreciation with a visit to a traditional olive oil mill and wine cellar in Malaga. Not to mention, there will be plenty of free time to explore Marbella and its surroundings.
The objective of the program is to provide students with a well-rounded knowledge of the history and preparation of traditional dishes, wine culture, and products from the Andalusian provinces as well as an integrated cultural experience that can serve them both professionally and personally in their future endeavors. Everything is included (from chef uniforms and cooking utensils to room and board on campus during the two week program) to ensure participants can just jump in and live the Andalusian way of life.
