Alumna Caroline Lebourg (2010) is revving up for the challenge of a lifetime. The French Les Roches graduate — currently working as Assistant Revenue Manager at ME London — will soon head to Argentina for a weeklong driving adventure across salt desserts and 4,500m mountain passes. With no GPS. Sleeping in tents. And on roads — or terrain — with no one in sight.
With her friend and co-driver, Louise Marty, Caroline will be participating in this April’s Trophée Roses des Andes, an annual rally open exclusively to women. Together, Caroline and Louise will drive a 4×4 through all kinds of landscapes and in unfamiliar terrain, navigating only with the help of a map and compass. The race is not based on speed. Instead, the goal is to reach each day’s destination — which is kept secret before the rally — in the shortest distance possible.
Caroline and Louise are throwing themselves whole-heartedly into this adventure for two important reasons: 1) to make their 30th birthday one to remember, and 2) to raise money for charity. Under the team name Les Roses de Cachi, the duo will be racing to raise awareness and funds for three associations and causes: Le Cancer du Sein, Parlons-en! (breast cancer), Autisme France Gestion (autism) and Fundación Equinoterapia del Azul (equestrian therapy).
“The charities we are supporting each have a special connection to our own lives,” Caroline says. “We originally had a goal to raise €20,000 to cover the rally and donate to these associations — but we have decided to push it to €30,000, which we hope to raise by April!” Les Roches is proud to be a sponsor of this charitable initiative, while Caroline and Louise also have a crowdfunding page for anyone who wants to contribute to their cause.
In the meantime, be sure to follow Les Roses de Cachi on Facebook and their blog. From hardcore driving lessons and pre-rally preparations to their challenges on the road, the team will be sharing their big adventure with all of us. And we wish them luck!
