It was a rather quick initiation when I went to the Puerto Banus Saturday market. I knew the Triple A organization was having an open day for the public to meet the dogs in their animal shelter, so I thought that it would be a great opportunity for our students to participate and give back to the community.
We started the day by packing all the food that we prepared the day before to sell at the Open Day’s food fair. Since the theme was an international food festival, we prepared Greek cheese pie, sushi, Indonesian chicken satay, classic lamington and arepas. Throughout the event, we met certain obstacles especially with the bad weather, but even so, our students were still motivated to sell as much as we could under the rain. This showed how deeply their love and selflessness towards others is. At the end of the event and with great perseverance from all those involved, we managed to sell most of our food and raised a total of over 200€.
With a little kind gesture from our students, we were able to change the life of these rescued dogs. They have been through so much rain and thunderstorms in their lives that it made sense for us to shower them with some love and sunshine. I would like to show my greatest appreciation to my kindest friends who were willing to help me during the hectic exam period. Even when I brought this up to them at the very last minute they were enthusiastic to help out. Thank you to Vivi, Naree, Leanne, Chris, Margherita, Zinon, Vanessa, Irene and faculty. They are a great example of what Stella McCartney meant when she said, “Everyone can do simple things to make a difference, and every little bit really does count.”
