I hope you’ve been enjoying the opportunity to ‘meet’ some of the big personalities who’ve graduated from Les Roches over the years. Last time I caught up with Francesca Giessmann; this time around I have the immense pleasure of introducing you to the legend and Hotel Guru that is Victor Foo, a class of 1983 alumnus!
Nicholas Allen (NA): What is your profession and current position?
Victor Foo (VF): I’m Vice President Hotel Operations at Resorts World Genting in Malaysia.
NA: Who was your first room-mate at Les Roches?
VF: Godwin Cheng.
NA: Where did you grow up?
VF: Penang where I was born; and Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia from when I was eight years old.
NA: Whom has made the biggest impact on your professional career?
VF: My late VP of Resort Hotel from 1994 to 1995.
NA: Who was your favorite teacher at Les Roches?
VF: Mrs Elizabeth Lee, Economics teacher.
NA: What’s your advice for new graduates?
VF: Learn from the bottom level, so that you have the experience to manage when you are in a senior position. Set yourself targets every two years to achieve your next position.
NA: Who did you have a crush on at Les Roches?
VF: Virginia T Foo, from the same batch, and who has been my wife since 1985 – we are married for 34 years now!!
NA: What is your fondest memory of Les Roches?
VF:The friendship amongst all alumni. We we are still in contact after 39 years.
NA: Do you have any phobias?
VF: No.
NA: You can ask me one question, what is it?
VF: It’s not really a question, but I just want to say how proud I am of Les Roches’ growth over the years and the current recognition of the school.
NA: Amen to that!
NA: Last question. You have organized a lavish dinner party with no expense spared. You can invite eight people, alive or dead, who are they? (mva.la)
VF: My late parents, my wife and our two sons, my two sisters and my best friend.
