Computer Policy

You will need a computer to have access to digital learning resources, our intranet and more on campus.

As a Les Roches student, you will be given individual access to our intranet website, which hosts student information, including support and teaching documents and other learning resources. You can bring your own computer from home, provided that it meets our specifications. On some campuses, you may also have the option to buy a laptop when you arrive.

 

Crans-Montana

Students have to bring their own laptop and must meet the School’s specifications as follows:

Software Specification

  • For Windows (Windows 11 operating system in English only) or Mac (OS Sonoma 14 or later)
  • The version of the operating system must be installed in English
  • Microsoft Office 2019 without MS Access or higher*
  • Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome
  • The machine must be free of any viruses or other harmful items
  • Only genuine software licenses are acceptable

*If not already installed, Les Roches will provide Microsoft Office during your studies.

Minimum Technical Specification

If you choose to bring your own laptop it must have the following minimum specification:

  • 8GB RAM
  • 256 GB available on hard drive

All software drivers for the machine must be installed properly before joining Les Roches. Also, the software patches for the Operating System and Office must be installed.

Marbella

Students joining Les Roches Marbella will need to have individual access to our intranet Website, which hosts student information, including support and teaching documents and other learning resources. Students will also require access to the internet which is vital for access to online library resources, email and project research.

The responsibility of hardware maintenance, purchase of all software, upgrades and support rests with the student. Les Roches Marbella can provide students with a list of local suppliers who offer these services.

All students have to bring a laptop that must meet the School’s specifications as follows.

Windows

  • Windows 10/11 Operating System English version. Only Genuine Software Licenses are accepted.

Apple

  • Operating system, Mac OS 14 “Sonoma” or late.
  • No Windows installation is required on Mac computers.

All

  • Microsoft Office: You will be eligible to download and install the MS Office suite (for free) using your school credentials. This license will be valid only during the time you are a Les Roches Marbella active student.
  • Internet browser (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge,…)
  • Updated plugins (Java, Flash, etc.)
  • Professional and updated Multi-Layered Anti-Virus protection (Kaspersky Anti-Virus, McAfee AntiVirus Plus, Norton Security, Bitdefender Total Security, etc.)
  • No VPN software installed.
  • No Virtual Machines installed (VMWare, Oracle Virtual Box, Parallel, etc.)
  • The device must not be part of any business ecosystem. In other words, it should not be enrolled in a corporate network or managed by an external IT team, where the end user lacks administrative rights to operate the laptop and install the software required for the course.
  • All software drivers for the machine must be installed properly before joining Les Roches. Also, the software patches for the Operating System.

IMPORTANT: Les Roches does not provide any paid software (Windows, Office, etc). Free of charge, IT Help Desk offers basic and limited support to non-school machines.

  • Processor: Intel i5 Processor (or superior)
  • 8 GB RAM
  • 256 GB space available (HDD or SSD)
  • Wi-Fi 802.11 g, n (Bands: 2.4 GHz / 5 GHz)
  • HDMI standard A port (*)
  • USB Port Type A (*)

(*) In case computers that don’t have these ports (mostly Mac computers), the student will need to bring the corresponding adapters.

Students are encouraged to save their files on cloud solution (Dropbox, iCloud, Google Drive, etc). If external hard disks or USB keys are used, it is recommended that all these devices are checked for viruses on a regular basis.
