Organised by the Career Development and Industry Placement (CDIP) department, the Les Roches Career Day is a must-attend for leading employers looking to secure the very best young talent.
The day itself is a blend of panel discussions, informal networking opportunities and the scheduling of interviews for both internships and permanent roles. In total, 90 companies attended the last Career Day in October, including 67 hotel-related companies and 23 from outside the industry, showing the varied hospitality career paths available to Les Roches alumni.
Access to the latest industry thinking
A series of eight panel discussions throughout the day allowed students to gain insight into the latest industry thinking on a number of zeitgeist topics, including:
– When does a startup stop being one?
– Why is communication today above all focused on branding?
– Is gathering data on guests ethical?
– Recommendations for first time managers
– Innovation and sustainability: essential for customer attraction?
Student, Isabel Valencia Zuniga, highlighted the importance of the event:
Career day can be described as a day where all companies that can recruit from Les Roches get together and students can see what there is to offer in the market.
Employers come to hire the best
Time and again at our Career Days we hear employers talk of the excellent presentation, knowledge and ability that sets Les Roches students apart from their contemporaries. These are qualities clearly in demand across multiple industries, with over 300 interviews scheduled on the day.
“So far I’ve met with 10 companies, including Mandarin Oriental, Jumeirah Group Hotels, even Qatar Airways and Zuma restaurant – such companies we have on campus, which is great”, commented student George Tarek Fathy Kamel.
Employers attended from a variety of sectors such as finance, yacht management, food & beverage, human resources, technology, etc. These are just a few examples of the companies that participated in the recruitment event:
Accor Hotels
Bloomberg LP
Bulgari Beijing
D&D London
Five Guys, European Operations
Hilton
PGA Catalunya Resort
SeaLogical Crew
“Students are really well spoken, they come to our booth already informed about who we are, what we do and then we just add the extra information that they’re missing and answer the questions they may have”, said Zhandra Fuentes, PR and Marcom Manager at Hosco.
An international school for a global industry
The international nature of hospitality is what makes it such an exciting and varied industry to work in. This is reflected in the students attending Les Roches, with over 100 nationalities represented and programs that take students around the globe. For Ingrid Middleton-Mahar, Corporate Director of Recruitment at Pacific Hospitality, this offers a clear advantage:
“I recruit all over the world and I hold Les Roches students in the highest regard”.
Territories covered by employers at the Career Day:
– Worldwide – 33%
– Americas – 8%
– Asia – 4%
– Europe – 50%
– Middle East – 5%
“Most applications that we receive for our grad schemes in Europe and Middle East & Africa are from Les Roches here in Bluche as well as the one in Marbella, so for us it’s critical to be here”, said Bjorn Olthof, Senior Manager of Graduate recruitment at Hilton. “I know Les Roches is one of the top 10 hospitality universities around the globe and you should be proud of that”, he added.
