Rome, the Eternal City, is one of the world’s most magnificent cities. Ancient buildings, exquisite fountains, and attractive alleyways are just a few of the top Rome places that will spice up your Instagram.
If you are heading to Rome soon and wish to get all of the most photogenic and stunning photographs, this is the guide for you.
1. Colosseum
The Colosseum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The construction started in 72 AD and was completed in 80 AD. It was an amphitheater where many historical events have been placed in the past. Today, it is the world’s largest amphitheater, which further adds to its majesty. An icon of Rome, every side of the Colosseum is absolutely beautiful, but the most Instagrammable angle in my opinion is on the northern side of the Colosseum, next to the Colosseo metro station. There is a stair leading down to the streets, and the short walls near the stairway are easily accessible.
You should check out inside the Colosseum to see how impressive the colors and the remains are and to discover more about the history as well. To get inside the Colosseum, you’ll need tickets. You can purchase online tickets and explore the Colosseum yourself, or you can go with a guide.
2. Trevi Fountain
Trevi Fountain has to be the next on this unique Instagrammable guide to Rome. People say if you toss a coin into the fountain, you will one day return to Rome. Whether it is true or not, it is definitely something to add to your Italy bucket list! Every year, millions of visitors flock to this massive fountain to marvel at its stunning architecture. Thus, it is difficult to capture a photo without myriad tourists behind. To cut a long tale short, make sure to wake up early if you want to take shots without the crowds.
3. Pantheon
Within walking distance of the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps, Pantheon is unquestionably one of Rome’s most famous attractions. The ideal spot for shooting is right in front of the main entrance in the square, where you can capture the entire exterior. Simply lean into the lovely fountain to get both the Pantheon and the fountain in one shot.

4. Castel Sant’ Angelo
Another underrated photo spot gem is the Castel Sant’ Angelo. The colossal structure towers over the Tiber River and Ponte Sant’ Angelo. It has been used as a fortress by the Roman Emperor Hadrian, and now a museum. If you wish to photograph the St. Angelo Bridge, get there as early as possible in the morning, or as close to sunset as possible. There are Instagrammable spots all around the castle, but if you want to get the most picturesque shot of it, take it from across the river, where you can see the gorgeous bridge and angel statues.
5. Altar of the Fatherland
The Altar of the Fatherland, also known as “The Wedding Cake”, is Italy’s largest national monument heavily adorned with white marble, sculptures, and carvings. The massive building is located in a very busy street of Rome. Getting a good photo can be hard, but the architecture is just so gorgeous that it deserves to be on the list of must-go places in Rome.
